ASME's 8 space milestones in mechanical Engineering.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has recognized
eight spacecraft and test facilities as engineering landmarks. Mechanical
engineers played an important role in the Space Race, designing engines,
structures, and materials as well as testing facilities that helped propel the
U.S. into orbit and onto the Moon and beyond. Here’s some of
them.
- Propulsion Wind Tunnel at Arnold AFB (1955)
- Atlas Launch Vehicle (1957)
- RL-10 Rocket Engine (1958)
- Advanced Engine Test Facility (1964)
- Saturn V Rocker (1967)
- Apollo Space Command Module (1968)
- Apollo Lunar Module LM-13 (1968)
- Voyager I and 2 Spacecraft (1977)
